McLaren at the Festival of Speed 2019

The Festival of Speed for McLaren this year was all about dynamic debuts, heart-racing hill climbs and a showcase of monumental MSO specifications.

The Festival of Speed for McLaren this year was all about dynamic debuts, heart-racing hill climbs and a showcase of monumental MSO specifications. This year’s stand delivered versatility, power, design and an undeniably spine-tingling aura of boundary pushing innovation.

The public were surrounded by a ferociously fast line up that was made up of the new 720S Spider, 600LT Spider, the all New GT, a full-scale Lego Senna and the ground-breaking and futuristically fascinating Speedtail. Behind the scenes, past security and down the secluded pathway was McLaren’s exclusive VIP hospitality. Hidden beneath the trees was an oasis of flowing champagne, an array of deliciously moreish nibbles, laid-back lounge vibe music and, of course, 3 exclusive models – another New GT sporting Veridian Green, an MSO 600LT in Dove Grey with Acid Green accents and a breath-taking Belize Blue 720S Spider.

The New GT on show to the public proudly sat raised at the heart of the stand dressed in Burnished Copper basking in the curiosity of an audience admiring the first ever GT from McLaren. The GT reimagines the old rules of the typical Grand Tourer. Through ground-breaking McLaren design and engineering the New GT is born for long, continent-crossing adventures with specifically designed Pirelli P-Zero tyres, 4.3 inches of road clearance, 570 litres of storage space and more interior options than ever before including Super Fabric; the ultra-durable new material designed for keeping up with any lifestyle. All of this practicality comes with impressive performance statistics. With 612 bhp available to the rear of the GT and a 4 litre V8 engine the GT can hit 62mph in just 3.2 seconds, and will keep accelerating to an astonishing top speed of 203mph. The GT ran up the hill making it’s first in-motion public debut, unleashing it’s deep and bubbling V8 nature, proving that the GT can be every bit as exhilarating as the typical super car.

Amongst the newest spiders, 720S and 600LT, the full-scale Lego Senna drew in huge crowds. The plastic supercar consisted of 467,854 blocks and weighed 1,700 kilograms - roughly 500 kilograms more than an actual Senna. This Senna had opening doors and a complete true to life interior. The driver seat, steering wheel, and pedals came from the road car, but the rest is entirely Lego. Pushing the start button played a recording of the twin-turbo V8 roaring to life igniting the toy car into life.

Another stand highlight was the 720S Ride-On. This kids toy car aims to be as authentic as possible to the grown-up version. It come with a choice of seven of McLaren’s most popular colors with the one on display at the festival sported Azores Orange. The diminutive car features similar styling cues to the 720S, such as exposed carbon fiber-style elements inside and out and those iconic dihedral doors that open like wings to the sky. The little car’s infotainment system can play music and children are able to enjoy films on the dashboard screen by plugging a USB or SD card into the points provided. If that isn’t enough, this kids racecar even comes with a pre-loaded selection of popular songs for under tens. Most importantly, a remote control is included for autonomous or parental-control driving mode. Peace of mind restored.

To add to the stand and allow guests to fully immerse into the world of McLaren, the McLaren Boutique was fully operating official merchandise with something for everyone – from gilets and jackets to caps and keyrings.
